Teflon Backup Rings
Seal Dynamics offers all industry standard as well as special configuration backup rings for use
in all industries. Backup rings are typically made of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). Back-up
rings are intended for use in high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems as anti-extrusion
devices in conjunction with rubber O-rings.
The most common industry standards for PTFE backup rings are:
MS27595 - Retainer, Packing Backup, Continuous Ring,
Tetrafluoroethylene.
MS28773 - Retainer, Packing Backup, Tetrafluoroethylene, Straight
Thread Tube Fitting Boss.
MS28774 - Retainer, Packing Backup, Single Turn, Tetrafluoroethylene.
Teflon O-rings
Seal Dynamics offers high quality Teflon® O-rings made out of PTFE. We offer
them in all standard AS568 O-ring sizes as well as many non-standard sizes. Teflon® O-rings
are used in high pressure applications and extreme temperature range applications
where a rubber O-rings will not perform.
Special Machine and Molded Teflon Parts
Seal Dynamics offers high quality machined and molded Teflon® parts for many
applications and industries. Some common types of TeflonĘ parts available are:
Piston Seals
Buffer Seals
Seat Seals
Scrapers
Valve Seals
V Packings
Additional Teflon Information by Industry
Aerospace: Teflon® is widely used in
the form of military specification back-up rings.
General Fluid Power Industry: Teflon® is
widely used in applications with high pressure and temperature ranges where O-ring
do not perform. Teflon also offers an extremely low coefficient of friction and
is used where dry lubricity and reduced friction is required in dynamic applications.
Food and Beverage Industry Equipment: Teflon® O-rings
are widely used in Food and Beverage processing equipment due to it's inert nature.
Teflon is available in various FDA Grade materials that make it acceptable for
use in applications that include contact with food and beverages.
Medical: Machine molded Teflon® is also
widely used in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment applications due to its
inert nature.
